Children Are A Blessing
Behold, children are a heritage from the Lord, The fruit of the womb is a reward. Like arrows in the hand of a warrior, So are the children of one’s youth. Happy is the man who has his quiver full of them; They shall not be ashamed, But shall speak with their enemies in the gate. Psalms 127:3-5
The disciples tried to stop some children from coming to Jesus because he was busy. Jesus loves little children and he was not too busy to stop and bless those children. He said to his disciples to let the children come to him.
Jesus called them to Him and said, “Let the little children come to Me, and do not forbid them; for of such is the kingdom of God. Luke 18:16
We can learn a great deal from this and take our children with us to church and ensure that they attend Sunday school. Children must be encouraged to share what they learn at church. Rewarding them will help them pay attention in Sunday school.
Training up a child in the way
You may be familiar with Proverbs 22:6
Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not depart from it.
What does Proverbs 22:6 really mean? What is the way that children are to be trained? Most parents train up their children in the best way they possibly know. “The best way” is not the same as “the way” and we can see the consequences of this in our society. Children becoming rebellious, disrespectful and some ending up in prison.
There is a way that seems right onto man but ends in death. Proverbs 14:12
You shall hear a voice behind you saying, this is the way, walk in it. Isaiah 30:21
Every parent wants to see their children succeed in life. True success if found in Jesus, because only Jesus is the way, the truth and the life.
THE WAY = JESUS
To train up a child in the way therefore means to train up the child up in Jesus, to obey his commandments, values and principles.
We are responsible for teaching them about Jesus and not leaving that responsibility to someone else.
Knowing more about Jesus will help to teach our children better. We need the Holy Spirit to give us revelation of Jesus, the word of God.
Out of the mouth of babes and nursing infants, You have ordained strength,
Because of Your enemies, That You may silence the enemy and the avenger. Psalm 8:2
And you, fathers, do not provoke your children to wrath, but bring them up in the training and admonition of the Lord. Ephesians 6:4
“But whoever causes one of these little ones who believe in Me to sin, it would be better for him if a millstone were hung around his neck, and he were drowned in the depth of the sea. Matthew 18:6
