Jeremiah 32:26-27
Then the word of the Lord came to Jeremiah, saying, “Behold, I am the Lord, the God of all flesh. Is there anything too hard for Me?
Read the whole chapter 32 for context.
Jerusalem, a land flowing with milk and honey was given to the Israelites when God delivered them from Egypt. The Israelites disobeyed God once they entered and took possession of the land, so God gave them over to their enemies, the Chaldeans of Babylon.
Jerusalem was besieged and set on fire by the Chaldeans according to the word of God. Famine and virulent disease have overcome the people, there was no hope of escape for them, no one could save them from their enemies because they had sinned against God. As Jeremiah, the prophet prayed about their fate, the word of God came to him in verses 26 & 27
Then the word of the Lord came to Jeremiah, saying,“ Behold, I am the Lord, the God of all flesh. Is there anything too hard for Me?
What does it mean to behold something? According to the Collins’ dictionary, when you ‘behold’ someone or something, you ‘see’ them. This is so powerful, pause and reflect on it.
When you go through seasons in your life where you become overwhelmed by everything happening whether it is due to sin, unemployment, finances, barrenness, failure, marital issues, problems with children, loss, etc, it can be the darkest moments in your life, so dark that it might be very difficult to see God in the mist of all your problems.
God is telling Jeremiah, I know the city of Jerusalem is besieged and the there is famine and virulent disease but look with the eye of faith, try to see me in that impossible or difficult situation. Stop focusing on the problem as it would not change it. Focus on God, the one who can change it. This is the first step to overcoming your situation.
Secondly, God introduced himself as ‘the LORD, the God of all flesh’. Wow. Now the word LORD is synonymous to the word chief, master, or ruler, it means to have power and authority over others. So if you can believe that God the creator of the universe has power and authority over all flesh, then you are very close to having your breakthrough and freedom.
Thirdly, God asked Jeremiah, ‘Is there anything too hard for me’? The one who has power and authority over all flesh can work things out in your favour. God is able to change the impossible situations you are going through right now into possibilities. What is the hardest thing in your life right now, something that no one can possibly help you with? I say to you bring it to the LORD, the God of all flesh. Nothing is too hard for him, the heart of the king is in his hand and he directs its course (Proverbs 21:1).
Prayer
Thank you God for your word which has reminded me today of your greatness, power and authority over all flesh. I pray and ask for forgiveness of any sin in my life, known and unknown and I pray that you will open my eyes to behold you in my situation.
I believe you have the power to turn things around in my favour for your glory. God I look to you, I won’t be overwhelm, give me vision to see things like you do in Jesus name, Amen.
